Greetings from Jerusalem.
Patty: We are so thankful for you! Your prayers are so appreciated and we have no doubt that we are being sustained because of them. We sense the pleasure of the Lord as we continue to minister here in Israel and we are in awe of his goodness and daily provision.
A MONTH OF CHALLENGES
We all face challenges along our life journey. Some face painful relational issues with their spouse or children, some face ongoing physical challenges, some financial and others seek to overcome emotional wounds. In all these trials, our main source of comfort and strength is found in the presence of God. We cannot control many of the painful situations we are in, but we can choose to draw near to God in intimate fellowship. How amazing to reflect on the powerful reality that the Spirit of God dwells within us and experiences everything we experience. No other human has that ability to get on the inside of us and to know our every thought and emotion. Truly, the Holy Spirit is our comforter and we have the promise in God’s Word that he will never leave us nor forsake us. Again and again God admonishes us that we are not to fear because he is with us. Don’t we all remember how when we were children and were scared at night, we would run into our parents’ room? Somehow, being in their presence brought peace to our soul. So, in these days, Dan and I are learning in a deeper way how to run into our Lord’s chamber to find grace and strength in our time of need.
Dan recently suffered from pancreatitis caused by small gall stones. For about a week he was the sickest I had ever seen him. He had to be hospitalized for a few days without food and water (just being nourished by IV) and now is at home waiting on a surgery date to have his gallbladder out. He has been on a strict diet the last few weeks of very low fat. The good news is that he has lost a lot of weight! The surgeon is pressing hard to get the operating room freed up for April 16, otherwise his surgery will have to wait until the 25th. And I have been facing bouts of pain from complicated migraines and back issues but recently I have been having some better days of greatly reduced pain! God has been with us every step of the way and cheering us on. In all of this, we are praising God as – in the midst of everything – we see the hand of God moving in our lives, the lives of our children and our grandchildren, and in our congregational community in Jerusalem, and the apostolic/prophetic network being birthed in the Land. I will let Dan give you a progress report.
