Recently I spent 12 days with our covenant partner, Ikapi, at the Global Mission Center in Iwaki-city, just outside the evacuation range from the Fukushima Nuclear Plant. Until a month ago, most of you had never heard of Fukushima--now this name has become infamous, like the name "Chernobyl" a generation ago. Now the whole world is thinking: "Can anything good come out of Fukushima!?"

I believe, and am praying, that the Lord has chosen this city of Iwaki in order to bring something incredibly good to Japan and the world: the long-awaited breakthrough and revival for Japan. There is much info posted for prayer, and you can sign up for the updates at http://reviveisrael.org/japanblog

End Times Rehearsal

The triple disasters of earthquake, tsunami, and radiation that visited NE Japan seem like something straight out of the Book of Revelation, though on a smaller scale. What I saw and experienced there was like a rehearsal for what will increasingly happen in the End Times.

1. Life or Death Faith: (see Rev 12:11) Of the 20 or so churches in Iwaki, the majority of believers, including pastors and missionaries, had already left Iwaki because of the lack of gas, water, or electricity--and then the radiation scare! Yet, everyday a truckload or two of aid and Christian volunteers would arrive from another part of the country. That means that the only Christians in Iwaki were those who knew the call of God in the face of personal danger, even perhaps serious sickness or death. As a result, our daily meetings were charged with the Holy Spirit. The sense of joyful camaraderie in serving Yeshua was so tangible, you could almost taste it in the air! In the End Times, such people will be like the 5 virgins who had plenty of oil for their lamps (Mt 25:1-13).

2. Unity in Tribulation: There were Charismatics, Baptists, Presbyterians, Catholics (and one Messianic Jew!). The End Times judgments will purify and unify the Body of Christ. The darkness will get darker, and the light will get brighter. The pressure cooker of the End Times tribulations along with true and tested faith will unite believers from all parts of the Body around the world. Yeshua's prayer for unity in John 17 will be fulfilled!

3. Faith or Fear? In Iwaki, the believers were full of faith and joy--no fear. Even though the radiation levels were fairly low, we can see how the media feeds on such events and instills so much fear in those who watch and listen. When I came back to Ben Gurion airport, one of the Custom's Officers stopped me on my way out. "Where are you coming from?" "Japan," I answered. "Okay...keep your bags to yourself...go, go, don't come near me!" A team of American brothers came to Iwaki with gifts of three expensive, digital Geiger counters for the church. They told us that they had to search all over the country, because most stores were sold out of these counters--in the USA, 10,000 miles from Fukushima!! Rev 6:15-17 paints a picture of the fear that will grip the world during the cataclysmic End Times events. By contrast, those who have already died and risen with Him, will shine like the stars in the heavens.

Japan has been a tough "nut" to crack for the Gospel. Despite 120 years of mostly free and open Protestant Missions, the Japanese remain largely an "unreached" people group. On the other hand, they have been a very diligent and successful society--at least according to the economic and scientific standards that are common to the modern West. Yet for 20 years, Japan has been in decline and unraveling at many social, demographic, and mental "seams." Now, this tremendous shaking and disaster. Please, please pray that the Lord will use this to bring the long prayed for Kingdom breakthrough in Japan--not simply a reconstruction of the super-pagan, super-materialistic wonderland. We will continue to update you on the blog concerning other ways to stay connected.
