In my view, the central international issues of our day are the world's response to Israel and to Islam, especially radical Islamism. The two are inextricably intertwined. I begin with a dilemma.

Israel and the Muslim World

Why is it that the world is more preoccupied with Israel's occupation of Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) than they are with the worldwide atrocities of Islamist terrorists? I think most of our readers are familiar with the issue. The world was scandalized by the fact that nearly a thousand civilians died in the last war between Hamas and Israel. We were deeply saddened as well. However, we must not forget that Hamas purposely sent rockets to kill Jewish civilians and fired them from Gaza civilian buildings, ensuring the death of Gaza civilians due to Israel's retaliation. Why is Israel primarily blamed for this?

We have seen hundreds of thousands killed in Syria, and genocide against Christians in Iraq, Syria, Nigeria, Niger, Darfur and more. Recently over 130 children were murdered in Pakistan because they were enrolled in school. Boko Haram has horrified with kidnappings and killings of men, women, and children. Forty innocent Christians were recently murdered as of this writing in the Philippines. There is a terrible falsehood at the heart of Islam that has lead to this violence.

Israel is said to be committing genocide. But there are no mass killings coming from Israel; none at all; only civilian casualties due to self-defense. A thousand civilians compared to what now approaches a half a million. The genocide from the Islamic State is stupefying. Yet Israel seems to the world to be the greater problem. Even in Arab nations allied to the West, we see regular beheadings for what no democratic nation would consider capital crimes. In Iran, thousands have been tortured and unjustly executed. If we try to weigh this in terms of human rationality, we will fail. The imbalanced treatment has to be a spiritual blindness, something deep in the human heart that is open to gross deception.

Is Israel Unjust to the Arabs?

As an Israeli, I am well aware and sad about unjust actions committed toward the Arab population. However, we should note that these never rise to the level of any of the crimes enumerated above.

Judea and Samaria is claimed by some to be under apartheid occupation. But this is not apartheid. It is not a civil-racial-legal system of discrimination. What Judea and Samaria are under is a partial Israeli military rule. In this regard, as in all military rule, civil rights are significantly curtailed. The problem of Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) seems insurmountable.

In Israel proper Arabs have full civil rights; serve in parliament, the Supreme Court and all professions. There is no separation in public facilities. For those who serve in the army there are a few economic advantages. This includes Budouins, Druze and some Christian Arabs. There is unequal spending in infrastructure and education in Arab areas. But that is as far as it goes. The abuse of language in the West and among Arab nations is stunning. Israel is accused of apartheid, genocide, fascism and of being worse than Hitler.

The Hatred of Colonialism

One reason why the Western world is anti-Israel is that they consider the greatest crime in history to be colonialism. These politically correct elites see Israel as a vestige of colonialism in an indigenous Middle Eastern culture. So Israel must yield. Western elites live in in a world of contradiction and fantasy. While affirming broad freedoms and human rights, they support some of the most oppressive countries in the world. Actually, Western colonialism cannot compare to the brutality of Muslim religious colonialism. It has been a culture-destroying force in every nation that Islam has conquered.

What is Most Important from God's Perspective?

In God's scale of values derived from the Bible, the primary issue is not ethnic national self-determination in one's own land, but the justice practiced by those in power. Nation states are a recent phenomenon, and every single ethnic group having it's own nation state will not automatically lead to justice. In fact there is more justice practiced in Israel, and even in Judea and Samaria, than in any Muslim ruled country. Unfortunately, the world will not recognize this.

Religious Liberty, the Most Important Justice Issue

I wrote some time ago that I agreed with the great philosopher and Christian statesman of yesteryear, Charles Malik, the primary author of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Malik argued that the foundation of human rights is religious liberty. This goes to the heart of a person as a spiritual being, to the issue of conscience before God. The right to argue for one's convictions and to criticize the other's religion is part of this liberty. This religious liberty was first asserted by the spread of Biblical faith in the 1st century. When Paul argued against idolatry and paganism in Athens (Acts 17) and then asserted the truth of the resurrection, he was also arguing for the right to forgo the idolatrous cult of the city, and even the cult of the Emperor, and the right to embrace Yeshua! If we would measure all societies first by religious liberty and then by all other criteria after this, Israel would be high on our list of nations where people really have significant religious freedom. Not one Muslim state would qualify. All practice religious persecution, even the death penalty, for a change of religious convictions. This should be our top issue for promoting the truth about Israel.

Truly the nations do not know what to do with Israel. Jerusalem is a stumbling block for them, a cup of drink that they cannot digest, that makes them stagger.

The blindness of the Western world is amazing. Seemingly it will only be lifted in the final wars and the return of Yeshua.

Excellent article. Well articulated and a more sound, guiding rationale, I have not read before. I want to add that there seems to be an abject fear underlying this blindness upon the nations. It is as if they are afraid to see and admit the truth because they would be left with the reality of the tyranny and injustice of radical Islam and the horror of knowing that it is a lurking menace in their midst and their hearts are melting for fear they can't control it or subdue it. So, they delude themselves into thinking that if Israel would give them what they want, even to the point of vacating the Land, then the radical muslims would be satisfied, their anger dissipated and they would all make nice and live in peace. Fools! If that happened, they would be next in line for slaughter. Praise Adonai, He will never let that happen to His people and He will fight for Israel. They haven't a clue they are standing on the wrong side.

Excellent article that summarizes not only the present state of affairs between how Israel treats Muslims both in "occupied territories" and "Israel itself" as opposed to how non-Muslims are treated both in Muslim nations and areas under militant Muslim control.
The question as to what borders "Israel itself" occupies remains a point of contention: the "Partition Plan 1947" boundaries, the 1949-1967 boundaries or the post 1967 War boundaries that included the "occupied territories" of the Gaza strip, the West bank and the Golan Heights?
Israel never had "defensible borders" until after the 1967 War.

I thoroughly agree with what you say. I think nations and individuals stumble over Israel as they stumble over Yeshua. The two are inextricably linked, forever. As a believer in Yeshua, living in New Zealand I feel honoured as a gentile believer to be a part of the Israel nation by faith, grafted in to the natural vine of Yeshua, purely because of his amazing grace to me. I have a God-inspired love for Israel as a nation and as a people and pray that if ever my country was ever foolish enough to turn its back on the Israel nation that I would have the courage to stand firmly in support of the nation that is the apple of God's eye, and I hope that there are many thousands more just like me. God bless Israel and her people.

-- Dr Juster replies: Yes, indeed, there are thousands who will do just this!

As a person from the West I have to agree with you, because it is simply the truth. They have given themselves into the hands of Islam, thinking to escape persecution, thinking this would be peace. But it is not. Islam loves betrayal but not the betrayer. As a believer in Yeshua at Israel's side we had to learn these last years, that repentance about Israel is not what they want. They want to do better by telling to tolerate Islam because we have murdered the Jews we should repent before allah. Oh, did I not hurt the God of Israel and the Jews? So why support first the enemies of the jewish people instead of reparations to the Holocaust victims. I personally speak to those who quench us into their false replacement theology. Why should we praise allah when we have hurt YHWH. Both are not the same as they try to tell us. When I asked my Pastor what he is thinking about Israel, he said we overcame the last 2000 years without Israel, and will overcome the next 2000 ears without Israel. I told him, that my Captain is a Jew, the noblest Jew on earth, and I would not stay on the Ship of this pastor, and left that church. Now I am out of Babylon. It is better to have one good friend in this world in Jeshua, than millions of blinders. It is better to be with him outside the city and carrying his shame than to be with his haters in a false comunity.
Freedom of religion is a strange thing. Because we give others freedom to believe in even the craziest idols. My freedom of religion is to follow Yeshua without any compromise, but in full love which is connected with truth. The Lord Jeshua showed me how to escape anti-semitism. He is loving Israel so pure so that he showed me how to love him and his people and escaped on this way the trap of anti-semitism . This taught me how to identify with Israel. Interestingly then are coming the snakes out out of their holes to bite and to take away our breathe from us. They truly think it would honor God when they deliver us to their muslim friends so that they can wash their hands in water to show that they are not guilty. So they feel very secure in Eurabia by betraying everything what comes from God, for their idols or Money, silver, gold, colonialism ecetera. But you see, what happened to Germanwings. God speaks clearly that he is able to make this false peace instable, and break down all of this selfishness.
God's Jugement is at our door. I heard God speaking that Europe's time is over. I will send you the whole word which was given to me, and you can use it wisely for good for Israel which will feel comforted when it hears that God has not forgotten Israel#039;s sufferings. May God help us to stay strong with you in this times. They try to silence us, may God help us to be faithful step by step ... and give us the opporunity to support Israel first.
Since when does the evildoer first care for the servants of the enemy instead of restoring Israel's Holocaust victims? This perverted thinking will now be judged and we have no excuse because of knowing nothing. We all are knowing too well how long God has waited for Judgement. Now the cup is full and must be drunk. I had this in all years of my life and I have learned my lessons, not to repeat what our forefathers did. Abba have mercy, not to repeat it, but walking with Israel in her same shoes. Please Dan Juster, and all of those Jews who love Jeshua, or will become believers in Him: never give up. I tried so hard to escape the enemy to tell you that the enemy is lost. This giant is a fallen Giant and is only a paper tiger. The cup will show what they really are. Please hold your courage. You are on the right side. I am not lifting up my self. No, I have said to your God when I was a child: God I was it I am guilty in this case, when many said they are not guilty, and repented once and for all. So I believe that I have to go through the process too, but with confidence and with love in my heart for Israel. This love is strong enough to help me through. I will not betray this Love of my master. Because his love brought me through the last 67 years.

The first four "rehersals" have had their fulfillment in this time of Passover and the next three are soon to have theirs ... All by Yeshua, the Lamb (Pesach) of YHWH.

-- Dr Juster replies: Yes, this is so. However, do note that the meaning of Passover still continues even into the Book of Revelation and the symbols are in the context of Israels deliverance from Egypt.'

Having visited Israel on several occasions, and having read widely on the subject of Isael's place in God's plans, as outlined in the old Covenant, I cannot help but agree that we been manipulated by most media into accepting untruths.

-- Dr Juster replies: I agree.

Wretchedly selective and utterly hypocritical use of the terms "freedom" and "human rights" is an astonishing example of what happens when people abandon the true God's leadership in their lives. Nebuchadnezzar of old was/is the proto-type of all those who defy knowledge of God with their arrogant boasts. The LORD turns even their human common sense, limited as it is to start with, to sheer beastly madness! And so the Big Lie in whatever form it comes (Big ... , fill in the blanks, any modern political/ethical "movement" would fit) loudly demands specious "rights" for its own perverted interests while denying basic religious liberty to its opponents. Used to wonder about the imprecatory psalms that make mention of the LORD "breaking heads over the whole, wide earth" on the day of His return. Now I think I understand - it'll be the only way that totally sinful men will "get it"!

-- Dr Juster replies: Wow - what an intense response! You are right, but how sad the depth of blindness.

Thank you for such a succinct situation analysis. This is very helpful for standing up for the truth. It describes the situation in the West and the words given by the Apostle Paul in II Thessalonians chapter two.

I totally agree with your article. The UN and media are both against Israel but Adonai will have the final word. Psalms 2

Thank you for this excellent article. God bless Israel. Keep trusting Him, as He is on your side. I live in South Africa, a country where many Christians love and pray for Israel.

Excellent article. The press controls the minds of the masses. They lie repeatedly about Israel. But in the end those that will serve the Lord with all their heart will be in paradise forever.

Very well balanced article. Recently a chaplain to the Queen here in England analysed the Koran and found 100 direct references to the killing (murder) of those who do not believe Islam. Since the priest concerned is a chaplain to the Queen his analysis got some news coverage - but not as much as it deserved - in itself sobering.

Yes, the importance of those in POWER! I do pray for those leading to receive DIVINE WISDOM! I do love Israel and just back from one "spiritually refreshing " (far from Noisy Agressive World) in the Desert Neguev. God's sovereignty and faithfulness is at work!

I wish this could be published in every newspaper here in America. My heart breaks that our country seems to be pulling away from Israel.
